It’s that time of the year where my cravings to travel is at it’s highest. Wanderlust, they call it. To explore places you’ve never set foot, is truly a treat. Traveling feeds the soul like nothing else and I urge everyone to do so. If you have that travel itch like I do, here are a few tips to get you started on your journey!
1. FIND SOMEONE WITH A SIMILAR MINDSET.
This would be the most important tip I can share with you. Travelling with someone who has the same travel style and goals as you is important. Some people enjoy being active and adventurous; always on the go, while others like to lounge around and take things slow. Both are fine. The key is to find a partner who is on the same page as you and you are guaranteed a good time. Finding someone you trust and whose company you genuinely enjoy is also a must. I was lucky enough to travel with my best friend across Europe for 3 weeks. I trusted her and knew that we would have nothing but an amazing time. We were always in sync, and I have to say it was one of the best times of my life. There’s nothing worse than spending long hours with someone you don’t like, so chose your travel soul mate wisely!
2. TRAVEL TO YOUR MEANS.
Everyone is at different points in their lives. Just because you see people around you travelling to places every other weekend, and spending countless amounts of dollars, doesn’t mean you have to do the same. Do what works for you. Traveling on a budget is always possible. You just have to do your research and plan accordingly. Personally, travelling on a budget is crucial for me. I make it my mission to put away a sum of money to hopefully travel once a year. If you have the longing to travel, believe me, you will find a way. Get that second job, pick up that extra shift, and make magic happen! It’s really about balancing out the priorities in your life. If you really want to go, you’ll make it work. It doesn’t matter if you are staying in a 5 star hotel or a little hostel around the corner. It doesn’t matter if you are going for 3 weeks versus 3 months. You will definitely have adventures and make great memories. Travelling will only make you richer and you have nothing to lose. So follow your heart, and make it happen!
3. TAKE THAT FIRST STEP.
So you’ve been talking about travelling for ages now but haven’t taken the plunge and actually booked it. The first step is to pick a date. Talk to your boss, family, or who ever it may be, and set that time frame for when you can go. Once you’ve allotted that time, all you need to do is start booking! As soon as you book that first flight, tour, etc. there’s no turning back. You’ll be motivated to keep planning the rest of your trip, and before you know it you’ll be standing in the very spot that you’ve been dreaming of going.
4. LOVE LIFE.
Lastly, enjoy! At the end of the day, you choose if you want to make an experience worthwhile. Breathe in your surroundings and take in everything this new place has to offer. Climb to the highest peaks and see the world beneath you. It’s beautiful, I promise. You’ll leave with experiences and stories to last you a lifetime!
Disclaimer: Once you travel you’ll get that constant itch to travel some more. This of course, is never a bad thing. Happy travelling my lovers!
